VIETNAMESE PAPAYA
Papaya (“đu đủ” in Vietnamese) is grown mostly in the Southern part of Vietnam, typically Soc Trang province, Vinh Long province, and Dong Thap province. It is grown all year round, but the most delicious and sweet papaya is on the market around the Tet holiday.
Vietnamese “đu đủ” is a big, cylinder-shaped fruit and has a green color when not ripened. The skin by then turns to a wide shade of orange, covering the inside reddish or red-orange flesh and numerous small black seeds.
It has a delectable sweet taste, yet, it is best to consume the fruit fresh and while it just had ripened since it could easily turn mushy and too soft when overripe while its taste becomes overly sweet and gradually sours with a disagreeable smell to it.
