COMMON PINEAPPLES IN VIETNAM

Pineapple is a widely grown tropical fruit in Vietnam all year round. Queen Pineapple and MD2 pineapple are the most popular varieties for manufacturing.

Queen Pineapple

Its most distinguishing characteristics are the small, dark purplish-green leaves and tiny spine. Conical in shape with deep yellow eyes, the fruit needs a thick cut to thoroughly remove the peel. It has a small, sensitive core and is juicy and sweet with a superb flavor. When ripe, fruits have a wonderful taste and flavor in addition to being spiky and golden yellow in color. When the eyes start to yellow, the fruits are harvested. Fruit typically weighs between 600 and 800 g. It has every positive organoleptic characteristic. Juice has a vivid yellow hue. TSS ranges from 10 to 14 Brix depending on the season and state of maturation. PH4 to 4.5. 80 to 90 percent water content.

MD2 Pineapple

MD2 / Golden Pineapple is less popular than Queen Pineapple due to its difficult multiplication. This variety possesses Sweetness, nice taste & flavor, and beautiful golden yellow like Queen, but fruit is big and has shallow eye sockets. MD2 pineapple is perfect for canning. The identification feature of MD2 is the non-spiny leaf margin, ripened fruit has golden bright yellow.
